Goodbye, Little Apartment...

Today we are leaving San Juan Del Sur. Finally! Much more of this, and we might accidentally spend our whole trip here!
Even so, we love this town and will miss it a lot. Our little apartment has been such a nice place to come home to after our excursions. It will be strange to put the backpacks back on and not have a home base again. We're all packed up, the shelves are empty, except for some stuff we decided to leave behind... Ryan is out trying to sell his surf board, bag, leash, and fins. Not an easy decision, but he decided it won't be worth it to carry it around while we're out of surf zone for the next little bit. On the bright side, he will have a little pocket money, and can buy a new one when we arrive in another surf town.

I know some of you have heard the sad news about a Salt Spring local being shot in Melaque, Mexico, and I know at least a few of you are growing more and more concerned about our travels in that direction. We are proceeding with caution day by day, feeling it out, asking other travelers about their experience there, and are prepared to change our plans if anything turns out to be looking like its too dangerous. Also, we keep very much to ourselves when we travel, we don't engage with anyone, and if we were to get robbed, we know not to try to save our stuff. The incident in Melaque was supposedly a result of confronting armed robbers, which we know to avoid if we encounter anything like that.
We all hear stories about how dangerous various places are, but if we've learned anything so far, its that you have to take it into account and then feel it out for yourself. Some things are too good to pass up, and not at all as scary as people say. So far our whole experience has been feeling very safe. At worst, its just chaotic with people flocking to your side to try to change your money for you or offer you a taxi.
So don't worry too much, we will be in touch along the way.

On a lighter note, our next stop is Ometepe Island. A beautiful island made up of two volcanoes, one active, one dormant. If you recognize the name, its from the coffee they produce there. Its just a short ferry ride from the town closest to San Juan Del Sur so today's travels will be painless.

Until then, just a few more things to pack up and one last meal with Elizabeth. Adios!
